As these spring days bring rain showers, you may be noticing your yard holding more water. If your driveway typically washes out or your lawn is extra soggy, it may be time to think about installing a French drain. Drainage issues are more than a wet lawn or a driveway full of puddles, the bigger problem has to do with how your basement or crawlspace is handling the overflow. During a heavy rainstorm, water can accumulate around the foundation of the home and eventually seep into the basement because it doesn't have a drainage path. However, installing a French drain around the foundation helps to pull water away from the home and into the hollow drainage pipe.
A French drain is a trench dug in the ground usually around the perimeter of your home or near the most problematic areas. The trench is filled with a perforated pipe wrapped in water-permeable fabric, and the pipe is covered with several layers of stone or gravel. French drain systems work because gravity causes the water to flow downhill, and water will always follow the path of least resistance, so it is naturally drawn down through the stones into the hollow pipe where the water can flow freely on a downward slope towards a more suitable spot for drainage.
At PestGuard Solutions we have years of experience in installing these types of drains throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. Our experts will direct any water from a higher spot, typically where your home or garage is located, to a lower one where we install Sump Pumps and Basins. This not only keep you from worrying about standing water in your crawl space, but also the costly damages standing water in your crawl space causes homeowners.
