We have seen more and more fire ant hills this season and have been called to treat them recently. Fire ant colonies reach their peak in the fall having grown throughout the summer months. You may think that waiting for them to die off in the winter is the only option, but actually fall is the best time to treat them to ensure they won't affect your yard in the spring. Colonies that have matured can be very deep and make it through the winter, which can cause the big mounds in your yard in the spring.
