While bugs are not something we enjoy finding in our homes, they are usually not out to get you! They are looking for a warm shelter to spend the winter. The best way to keep them out would be to seal up any cracks or holes they could enter through, but this still may not keep your home 100 percent bug proof!
Here are some common pests you may see this fall in your home.
Stink bugs are not harmful to humans or pets, but they give off a smelly chemical excretion as a natural defense when they feel threatened. You may seem them around your window sills or on your ceilings.
Boxelder bugs are nuisance pests. They do not sting or transmit disease, and are generally not known to bite, though there are rare reports of defensive biting. Boxelder bugs are not known to cause damage to homes or significant damage to plants. However, their feces can stain light colored surfaces.
Ladybugs are definitely more prominent in your home in the fall and winter. They prefer high-up places to nest, also common in attics and porches and in window and door frames. The best thing to do when seeing them in your home is to scoop them up and put them outside or vacuum them. Try not to crush them because they emit a strong smell!
Rodents also need a warm place to nest in the fall and winter months. Hearing rustling sounds or finding their droppings will be your first clues that they have made their way into your home. Mice, rats and chipmunks can carry diseases that you won’t want in your home. It is important to seal up any entry points. At home traps can be your first line of defense, or of course you can call your pest control specialist at Pest Guard.
Like we said, many of these fall pests will not cause damage or harm to your home or family, but may be more of a nuisance. Always remember your local experts here at Pest Guard if you need some back up!
