The sun is shining, the birds are singing, warmer temperatures are coming! SPRING! But along with those things, the warmer temperatures bring pests. Termite swarming season is near and we wanted to give you some information about what to look out for and how you can protect your home from them.
First things first, what is a subterranean termite?
Subterranean termites live underground or in moist, secluded areas aboveground, as many as two million to a colony. Each measuring up to one inch in length, these cream-colored termites travel along distinctive “mud tubes” through foundation cracks and expansion joints, along plumbing and electrical penetrations, behind veneer and anywhere wood meets the ground.
What does “swarming season" mean and when is it?
When termites swarm, they leave their colony in search of a new home. Unfortunately, that new home could be yours. Subterranean termites "swarm" as the weather begins to warm, usually at the beginning of spring after a rain event.
