If you have recently noticed little moths or beetles in or around your pantry, chances are you may have some new critter friends enjoying your dried foods!
Pantry pests typically are not dangerous or poisonous, but you don’t want to allow an infestation to grow and contaminate your food.
The most common pests that invade the pantry are moths, small beetles, and weevils. They like to feed on dried grains, cereals, flour, beans, nuts and spices. They will most likely invade foods that are not sealed well, but can also chew their way into packages.
Eradicating the bugs-
If you think you may have some pantry invaders, the first thing you will want to do is inspect your food. If you think you have an infestation, we encourage you to throw away any opened pantry item, as they may have the eggs or larvae in them. Take out everything from your pantry and wipe it down well and vacuum all the shelves and nooks and crannies! Before putting any food back make sure your foods are stored in sealable glass, plastic, or metal containers. They keep the bugs out better than cardboard, plastic wrap or tinfoil.
Then, be patient! If you are still seeing moths after a few weeks, make sure there is not another food source they have found.
